Food is Our Friend, Not Foe

A snippet of my own journey.

Stephanie Eggleton

I developed a fairly negative relationship with food from quite a young age. I was always the bigger girl growing up and it only got worse when I moved out of home. I was met with a lot of freedom of choice and use of my own income. That coupled with a bad relationship left me in a toxic binge eating and purging cycle that resulted in a near 20kg weight gain within the space of 6-12 months. I knew something had to change so I learnt a little about nutrition and how to count my macros and lost majority of the weight but continued to yoyo diet for many years to come.

I fell back into the same binging & purging cycle again and I remember thinking to myself, I can't live like this forever, I need to actually learn how to repair my relationship with food. So I invested in my own nutritionist and worked through a lot of the issues I struggled with in terms of body image, emotional eating, yoyo dieting and learnt a lot about what a balanced diet consisted of and how to both have the things I enjoy and achieve my goals at the same time.

I loved my own journey so much that I wanted to be able to help other men & women who face the same struggles as me. So I decided to commence my studies with Sports Nutrition Australia and become an Accredited Sports Nutritionist, something I wouldn't change for the world.

Being able to not only help my clients achieve the goals they set out but also educate them at the same time about food, eating habits & how it can impact mental health is imperative to me. If what I do helps even just one person out there then I will be a happy woman.
